A Hunger for Heaven, Dr. Jack Warren’s latest book, has 136 pages in 7 chapters, dealing with the loss of his only daughter, Julie, the grief that followed and our only hope that is in Christ. It explains heaven, the intermediate state, where it is and what is going on there. It includes a chapter on dealing with the grief of losing someone and how to comfort those who have.
Two excerpts are as follows: “It is probably going to be with you for long time to come. You think you are ‘over it’ and suddenly something pulls the trigger. It could be a photograph or a memory or a holiday, especially a holiday. Like an attack dog it comes out of nowhere.”
“Most of us have been struck dumb when it comes to knowing what to say to a grieving friend or relative. We do not know what to say or do because we live in a society that knows no etiquette in such matters. Admittedly, it is very delicate because none of us wishes to intrude or cause more pain, but, remember, the grieving do need support.”
Jack Warren was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1962 by a church that later merged with the First Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas. He has pastored churches in Kansas, Nebraska and Texas, serving as pastor of the Bethesda Baptist Church since April 1978.
Pastor Warren and his wife, Sue, have been married 55 years. They have two children, Julie, now with the Lord, and Tom. They have three grandchildren. J.D., Chelsea and Lindsey and two great-grandchildren, Cade and Cora Adelaide.
