🔊🆙👂🗣️ SOUND ON YO❗ #TheCoded12elve was a method of articulating a myriad of thoughts, questions and assertions that came out of #InternalReflection As we were subject to quarantine and isolation periods, I delved deep into my psyche, and explored my relationship with my social location as a black man in contemporary society✊🏾👑👊🏾, in addition to this, I explored my esoteric connections of spiritual and conceptual understanding. Furthermore, as a husband, and father, I see the world through a different lense than my earlier days of writing, now there is more to think of and about. #TeamCMT ain't no them then, there really ain't no me. From there, messages from the source were displayed as thoughts in my mind, transferred to stanzas in poems. When I was younger, I went through this phase of constantly asking ‘why’. For the first few consecutive ‘why’s’, an adult may entertain me with an explanation. But then we usually hit a point where the adult either didn’t have an answer, or got really annoyed (or both!), and I would be told to just do what I’ve been told to do. . Lately, as I’ve been diving deeper into the study of yoga philosophy, I’ve had the chance to reflect on some of my current actions. The funny thing is that this reflection process is basically just like that 7-year-old me asking ‘why’ after every answer... . One of the things that came up recently was questioning the need for me to do certain work engagements. I love teaching, but there are some things within the yoga teaching world that I may have sub-consciously associated with being a “successful yoga teacher” - like international workshops, social media sponsorships, and popularity. And I asked myself ‘why is this important?’ The honest answer was that it made me feel successful. I guess the natural follow-up-why is ‘why do I need to feel successful?’... It’s questions like these that starts the honest self-reflection process. . Personally & honestly, I wanted all these ‘success’ badges so that I can feel a sense of pride and achievement when someone asks me ‘what have you been up to?’ But why do I need the external acknowledgment to feel this temporary sense of pride? Am I looking for temporary happiness based off a hypothetical external interaction?... . With these types of reflections it is important to take judgement out of the process. So maybe I was looking for some sort of ‘success’ acknowledgement, maybe I had this pre-defined view of ‘success... but that’s okay. . Awareness without judgement. . Through that awareness, my intention for teaching is now clearer to me. There could be 1 student, or 100 students in my class.. where it used to matter before, it doesn’t anymore. I love teaching yoga, irregardless. . Looking for happiness in the external is temporary.
