Dr. Elizabeth R. Laird, physicist, pioneer in microwave research, at work in her University of Western Ontario lab, August 22, 1945. Dr. Laird, born in 1874, was a brilliant scientist who, upon returning to London, Ontario following a distinguished career as the Head of Science at Mount Holyoke College, joined the small team of war-time physics researchers at Western where she carried out top-secret radar research for the National Research Council.
