The future is anime in real-time! ComiPO! shows off new live anime web-technology at Interop Tokyo.

Above is a sample screen from ComiPO!s new technology that caused a buzz at this week's technology fair: Interop Tokyo 2012. You might be familiar with ComiPO! - they make a cool manga software for artistically challenged people such as myself.

ComiPO! demonstrated that by using a simple interface like the one pictured above, they could broadcast this anime character talking and moving in real-time. Behind the scenes, an anime voice actor speaks into a microphone, and the character's mouth moves along. The panel on the right of the interface screen can also be clicked to make the character instantly display different emotions to add depth to the speech.

The software is currently being developed for use on live broadcasts, so that, for instance, an anime character can tell you breaking news through NicoNico in real time. The producer is also looking into other functions that might make the software useful to companies in areas such as customer support.

Most importantly, though, the producer said that they see the eventual possibility of this being released for consumer use! If I could customize an anime character and use it to Skype and vlog, I think I could die happy. And wouldn't you like to get the GoBoiano news from an anime cutie instead of all this text?
