Reichenbach Fall.
SHERLOCK AND JOHN, SOFA. CUDDLING. TV'S ON. JOHN'S WATCHING, SHERLOCK IS NOT FOCUSED. JOHN LAUGHS OCCASIONALLY AT THE SHOW.
VOICE OVER, SHERLOCK: It hurts me, to see him so happy now, knowing I'm going to cause him so much pain. Not that it can be helped, of course. I can't stop Moriarty without stopping myself. And stopping John, I suppose, metaphorically. There's no other way. And he'll be alright. Eventually. Without me.
CUT TO BEDROOM, LATER. IT'S DARK, BUT THE ORANGE GLOW FROM THE LAMP OUTSIDE SHOWS THE SILHOUETTE OF SHERLOCK, STANDING.
HE LEANS IN, KISSING JOHN SOFTLY ON THE TEMPLE, BEFORE LEAVING A NOTE ON THE BEDSIDE TABLE AND EXITING THE ROOM.
SHERLOCK, WALKING THROUGH THE STREETS AS SNOW LIGHTLY FALLS. HE LOOKS HAUNTED. OCCASIONALLY THE CAMERA CATCHES SIGHT OF AN OUTLINE OF A MAN ON THE ROOFS, FOLLOWING CLOSE BY. SHERLOCK HAS ALSO NOTICED, BUT FAILS TO LET ON. HE SOON REACHES THE WATERFALL, MORIARTY IS ALREADY THERE, A SMIRK ON HIS FACE.
CUT TO SHERLOCK AND MORIARTY FALLING. NO MUSIC.
VOICE-OVER, JOHN: And that's how it all ended. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.
SHERLOCK. FLORENCE, BRIGHT, SUNNY. NEW FLAT. NEW HAIR. NEW CLOTHES. NEW EYES. NEW LIFE.
JOHN. LONDON, DARK, RAINY. OLD FLAT. OLD HAIR. OLD CLOTHES. OLD, TIRED EYES. NEW DEATH. A NEW DEATH EVERY TIME HE REMEMBERS.
AT ONCE, THEY BOTH COLLAPSE FORWARD ONTO THE TABLE, UNABLE TO HOLD BACK TEARS.
