Then he turned to the topic of #abortion, describing a graphic—and wholly inaccurate—situation in which a mother and doctor “execute” a baby.⁣ ⁣ Trump claimed to be describing “extreme late-term abortions,” telling the crowd that babies are “ripped from their mother’s womb right until the moment of birth.” He was just getting started. Trump proceeded to tell the raucous crowd that Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers “shockingly stated that he will veto legislation that protects Wisconsin babies born alive. Born alive. The baby is born, the mother meets with the doctor, they take care of the baby, they wrap the baby beautifully, and then the doctor and the mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby.” Trump repeated this again, and used a guillotine hand motion for effect.⁣ ⁣ None of what he said is true. Trump has repeated similar claims before—at a campaign rally in El Paso, Texas, in February, and again during his State of the Union address. #Repost @faithfullyqueer ・・・ “So many queer people I've spoken to feel disenfranchised from religion because they feel that there are some certain elements throughout history in every religion that were not LGBTQ- friendly in one way or another. But what's important for us to realize is that everyone does that in their life. I have yet to find a religious person that doesn't pick and choose. They might claim that they don't, but every religious person picks and chooses what they focus on more and what they focus on less. There's a saying that I heard growing up, which was don't hate someone because they sin differently than you. Everyone does their own thing, and that's what traditions have done throughout history. Being able to say that it's OK, my religious tradition might have something that I don't like, something that I don't agree with, and that's beautiful. But then there are other parts that I really love, and that's also beautiful. You can celebrate that and they're not in contradiction. It's OK to pick and choose. It's OK to find the things that work for you and go with that and disregard the rest. If you were told that this is how this specific practice is supposed to happen doesn't feel right for you, you can let it go. Or you can totally revamp it and reconfigure it in a way that works for you. When it comes to gender today, a big part has been being able to be OK with my gender in the context of my spiritual and cultural practices. But more importantly has been finding the parts from my tradition that enrich that gender experience. I did a very traditional ritualistic name change and transition ceremony where I went up to the Torah scroll and said blessings. What does the LGBTQIAPD community have to do with Filipino American History Month? Well, the first federal same sex marriage court case involved Richard Adams, a Filipino American, and Tony Sullivan, who were issued a marriage certificate in Boulder, Colorado on April 21, 1975. Sullivan, an Australian citizen, was facing deportation, and the couple requested a spouse's visa, submitting the marriage certificate as proof of their marriage. The government profanely responded, "You have failed to establish that a bona fide marital relationship can exist between two faggots." The federal court case, to demand the federal government recognize same sex marriage, ensued from there. They lost the case, and the couple moved to Europe, before eventually coming back to the United States. Justice Kennedy was on both this case and the United States v.
