Visual Research-Marian Bantjes and Hansje van Halem
27/10/2022
Bantjes is a designer with specialisms within typography and illustration. This is most relevant to me as I am looking towards patterned letterforms.
Halem is known for her geometric letterforms. Her designs are more within the psychedelic aesthetic but have symmetrical effects which have already been present within my playing card forms.

Please ignore the neon colours of the images, this is due to the CYMK colour mode.
Crit Feedback:
Adjust the borders on the assets so it appears less like a stamp.
Convert the letterforms to black and white for the assets, except for the assigned number
The imagery on the poster is too much and can benefit to the simplification of singular letterforms
Of course, there are some aspects of the letterforms themselves to be adjusted (the S is the main concern), but due to the detailing of the letters, I am advised to just fix the assets. Otherwise I won't have time to focus on the next upcoming project.
Visual Research-Letterpress
27/10/2022
I went over to the bindery room and asked Joseph if he had any decorative font. Unfortunately they don't, but I had the chance to observe the delicate forms of the ornament presses. There were two letters of a H and an S which link directly to 'adhesion', and thinking back to Sally's concept, these letters were contained within a pattern block. This could be an approach to take.

Fred advised creating a collective letterform and then embodying the font. Sally proposed the idea of the pattern existing in blocks with the letterform highlighted. My goal now is to explore this and assert a font that can have pattern incorporated.
The Importance of Self Initiated Projects and Letterpress Workers Lecture
28/10/2022
This lecture focused on the career path of Mark Pavey, and his advise was rooted in networking. The talk highlighted the importance of connecting with others. There was talk on how the American print centres are more large and diverse in their letterforms when compared to our access routes in the UK. Wisconsin in the US is particularly good for this practise.
