Idea generation

I found generating ideas for the tool was quite challenging. As my solution is based on research I had trouble creating ideas that were creative whilst still fitting my learning agreement. As I were not happy with my ideas I have decided to begin experimenting with other idea generation methods and creative methods such as lino cut to see if this helps me to create some initial prototypes for my tool. I will also research Industry time management methods and methods to increase motivation to see if this will inspire me.

Initial Ideas for Solution

My found solutions are of most feasibility within the advocacy mind map and this is due to the restrictions centred around navigation in NK, even after defectors have escaped. I placed the other starting points under advocacy because each idea covers these points. Within conversation, all formats spark the discussion of North Korea and its victimization of citizens. Within participation, each idea invites viewers to donate to the charity Liberty in North Korea. Within critique, the representation of the sufferance of NK people is a criticism of the regime. I want my focus to be on the promotion of advocacy in helping defectors, rather than creating a direct resource to help them out of the country, as this is not realistic.

Initial Outcome Idea:

I am in most favour of the exhibition piece as this would allow for me to demonstrate the real-life stories of defectors and cultivate support from an audience in aiding the LINK charity. The message that I want to communicate is that defectors are victims and not a representation of where they come from, which deconstructs western ideas that NK is just an indoctrinated society that is in favour of mass militia and Kim Jong-Un. I am unsure as to whether an exhibition piece would mean the physical construction of it, or whether it can be a conceptual idea. My hope is that it would cultivate change by educating viewers on the real people of NK and make an impact to the direct victims of the system by donating money to the LINK charity.

Initial app layout design

Using my research and the ideas we generated in the workshop, I used XD to create a wireframe of how the app could look. I used rectangles and squares to represent each element of the app to make moving and manipulating the design quick and easy.

To make the design more user friendly, I placed the buttons in the centre or bottom of the screen. This makes the buttons easier to reach, as shown in my research. I will present this wireframe to my group and develop them further using their opinions and research.

Initial ideas

My initial research and audience research let me know that the ideas I generated in Mark Sephton's workshop would not be suitable for this brief. For my ideas I decided to focus on the reader's experience which I found was unique to each person when I asked Gen Z readers what their reading experience was. To generate some more focused ideas, I was inspired by the research I had done on existing merchandise products. However, I used the interviews to make sure they would appeal to the target audience.

Book holders - A magnetic hook that connects to the book covers.

Multipurpose book holder - A wooden book holder with a torch and mug holder.

Flexible light - A comfortable light that fits behind your ear.

Book follower - Combines audio and E-books to allow you to follow the book whilst you read.

Penguin companion - A penguin figure that makes your reading experience better.

Reading kits - A collection of merchandise that is tailored to your individual reading experience.

Our group started thinking about the various approaches to take the brand. My ideas started off with mural-inspired drawings as explored in my previous project, but I then went on to propose the idea of 70's patterning, mascots and typography. The concept of 70's visuals were drawn out from the moodboard which featured similar colourings and typography to this era.
