So a long ass time ago, Katy @justawordshaker wrote out the questions she wished 1D were asked in interviews in this post (which I love and wholeheartedly need to hear answered, and some of these will probably be a lot like those), and since I basically think about that 99% of my time spent conscious, and a lot unconscious tbh, I was inspired and decided to write up my own questions I would ask if given the opportunity. This has been in my drafts forever and since I’m in a meme-y mood today, I decided to post it. Maybe there will be a contest and now I’ll be super prepared to ask 1D all these questions. Oh, and I put them in categories because I did.

MUSIC

Louis and Liam, you’ve said before that most of your songwriting starts with a theme or a melody respectively, and grows from there. Niall and Harry, what about you? What’s the hardest way to start/the hardest part for each of you?

How were the majority of songs on MITAM written? Lyrics, theme, or melody first?

Do you ever think you’ve come up with a melody to discover you’re just singing something already written?

Along those lines, where do the melodies come from? Do you just hum or play random notes/chords and hope you come up with something good?

side note: i obviously have NO knowledge of songwriting lol

I feel that people are often very bad about talking about their own strengths, so old-school style, tell us what the person to your left is best at songwriting wise.

You’ve all mentioned multiple times about a session where you all sat down and talked about the album, but obviously wrote the songs in different groups. Walk us through that meeting. Did you just share ideas about other artists you really wanted to influence the album? Did you share more about the feelings and mood you wanted to create? Did any of the songs off MITAM actually begin at that initial meeting- even just a line or two?

Harry, you’ve said that your favorite aspect about songwriting is that each song can have a different meaning to every person who hears it, and Liam, you’ve said that you guys don’t really ask one another what the meaning is behind what they’ve written. As you probably know, your fans have those same personal meanings but also speculate about what different songs could mean or be inspired by- do you ever do that to one another’s songs? Do you feel that there are any songs you have a good idea of what they mean to its writer?

If you could each pick one other song on the album- including deluxe songs- to be a single, what would you pick and why? What about for older albums?

Speaking of, what goes into your single-picking decision?

Still along those lines, you’ve shown your appreciation and support for your fan’s incredible No Control Project. What song would you want them to create a project to make the unofficial single off MITAM?

Whose idea was it to do Torn for your BBR1 Live Lounge and are you ready to fight me?

Liam, you are always talking about Man on a Mission. Everyone please perform it for us.

Your fans, myself included, really want an acoustic, Christmas, and even a Capella albums. If you could only record one, which would you prefer? What songs would you want on it?

Once you’ve decided which songs make it on to the album, how do you decide what the track order is? Is there deep thought behind it or do you just pick something that sounds kinda nice?

What’s the hardest/best/worst/other superlative part of recording?

Louis, you started out saying you were against tattoos. What made you change your mind?

Talk about the person on your right this time, and tell us something special about that person that could only be known from living in one another’s pockets for five years.

Do you ever get sentimental or nostalgic and watch old videos like X-Factor video diaries, XF performances or old interviews/twitcams?

You can only listen to one of your songs for the rest of your life- what do you choose?

Louis, you will have a child soon. Who of the other 3 will be the best “uncle”? (here in the berenstein universe nobody can tell me what i can and can’t ask them)

Liam, you said that one of the songs Harry wrote made you cry. Mind telling us which it was now that we know the songs?

Niall, you mentioned having to ask off for your birthday. Do you all realize that most people work on their birthday?

I don’t know if any of you have ever read McFly’s book, but it’s got some pretty serious stories in there. Do you think you all will ever release a tell-all?

I know I have lots of niche interests and lots of like trivia knowledge about those things I find interesting or just like to learn about. What’s a unique area that you like learning about?

Niall, you post a lot of photos on IG of a living/media space in your house, and fans have noticed you have a framed photo of Frank Sinatra up. a) can you explain that? and b) what is everybody’s fave or weirdest thing in their house?
