The Intrépida Vela is a three-day marathon celebration held on the third weekend in November and it shows how accepted Muxes are by their communities. The weekend begins with a parade of colorful floats where Intrépidas throw candy, cookies, and other items into the crowd. On Saturday morning, a mass is held for Muxes, which only further emphasizes the acceptance of the Muxes as a Catholic church was not only welcoming to Muxes, but dedicated an entire mass to them. In the evening, there is an Intrépida event, where people come to formally celebrate and a new Queen is crowned. Sunday is a more informal day, where people dance, drink, and after the festivities of the weekend (Mirande 392-393). Although the celebration is important, Muxes represent a significant movement in Juchitan. The name Intrepidas can be translated as fearless of seekers of danger. And many Muxes have banded together to form an organization called, Las Auténticas Intrépida Buscadoras de Peligro, or The Authentic, Fearless Seekers of Danger. Members of this organization have taken it upon themselves to education of topics such as sex education, safe sex, AIDS awareness, and eradication of domestic violence (Mirande 390). All of these topics go without public discussion and Muxes are attempting to change this.
