roland is a relatively happy man. he drinks a lot and always has a tale to tell. most of the time, people think he’s lying, but they’ll never call him out on that for fear of upsetting the guildmaster and because they genuinely enjoy the tales.
he was born to a wealthy merchant family, and when the time came, they wanted to marry him off to a wealthy woman. he elected to forgo the marriage part (at least not to the woman his parents wanted). instead, he married a weapons smith, oriana, a woman who was no more rich and noble than the rest of them. he loved her more than anything in the world, and he loved their daughter, fawn, when she was born.
that love left before they hit 30, and it soured from there. when they divorced, roland drank himself into many a stupor, and out of spite, he named the crossbow she made him oriana. it’s rumored he loves his crossbow more than any other person, but in truth, his love for fawn is more real.
as for the merchant’s guild, he was born to run it. he’s loud, boisterous, and demanding. if he tells someone to get something done, by the gods, they do.
