Destiny has Arrived

As I gathered my bags from the baggage compartment of the train, I could not believe I was back. Back in Caldwell. I had left after the Primale released the Chosen. Running to the west coast. I wanted to be as far away from Caldwell as I could. A place where no one knew my face or what I was. Los Angeles was the city of dreams for some but for some reason, I could never quite figure out what my “dream” was. It took a while to learn the ways of the civilians but I wanted to blend in so I did my best. Waiting tables to pay my rent and just getting by day to day. It was definitely nothing like what I was accustomed to and, damn it, there were moments I missed the comforts of being in the Primale’s care. But I had proven to myself that I was a strong, independent female who could survive on her own. But things around had changed. The stories of the war the Lessening Society were growing. The war had escalated and rumors surfaced that no vampires were truly safe. I had not wanted to return but I realized that I spent more time looking over my shoulder than anything. So, I made the choice to return to Caldwell. I hailed a taxi and asked him to take me to the nearest hotel. The trip back across the country took several nights and had been axing. I needed a very hot shower and a clean, soft bed in a very dark room. Pulling up to Caldwell Inn the driver helped me with my bags and then slipped me his number as I paid the fair. Yep, some things are the same in Caldwell as in LA. Creepy perverted cab drivers. I made my way into the hotel, first discarding the phone number, and then checking in and requesting no cleaning service for the morning as I had been traveling for a few days and really needed a nice, long sleep. Twenty minutes later, I was standing under the spray of the shower, the water running down my face and body. Thought filled my mind, mostly memories and flashbacks to my time serving the Brothers. I will never forget the one male who made by heart skip a beat when I saw him. I was honored that he took my vein. But, he never truly saw me. I was nothing to him as it was supposed to be. But that doesn’t mean a female can’t have a few secret fantasies. Shaking my head to push away those thoughts, I brought myself back to the present. Now that I am here, what am I going to do with myself. My first objective, find a job and then a place to stay. I assumed I could return to the Primale and ask for his protection, but I couldn’t do that. Being this close to him and the Brothers would give me enough peace of mind. I would be fine on my own. At least that is what I keep telling myself anyway. As the shower turned cold, I stepped out and wrapped a big fluffy towel around my body and took a second to dry my hair as I walked through the room. Once again I checked the locks on the door. I had asked for a room with no outer window which they luckily had a few which were adjacent to the indoor pool available. I made sure the curtains on the window to the pool were tightly closed and threw the comforter from the bed over them just to be certain before dropping my towel and sliding between the sheets. I knew sleep would take me fast and as I closed my eyes, I prayed to the Scribe as I did every night, for safety from the evils that walk this world and to one day find my true mate, whoever he might be.
