Can you do HCs for how Yuugi and Atem would resolve having feelings for the same girl (pre-the last duel)? I imagine since they share a "headspace" that without being told explicitly they can sort of feel what the other is feeling and awkwardness would ensue.
What an interesting idea! This brings up a lot of questions about the limitations and implications of Atem’s possession. Though technically Atem’s spirit resides in the puzzle…My brain hurts.
-Yugi has confided in Atem regarding his feelings for his crush awhile ago, and Atem takes joy in hearing all about this mystery person. At first, he simply enjoys watching his “aibou’s” (“partner’s”) eyes light up and feel his heart beat faster with excitement. -Soon enough he gets to see and interact with this person with more regularity, and initially careful observation becomes something…a little more.-Atem notices and confirms all of the positive characteristics that Yugi had mentioned, but he has started noticing things that he particularly likes as well.-At first he thinks nothing of it. He supports his partner very much! But while he can remain dormant to a certain extent, he can always tell when the crush is near; Yugi’s heartbeat and elevated body temperature gives it away. It’s almost like a soft and subtle alarm clock. And like clockwork, Atem can’t help but peek through Yugi’s innocent eyes.-He feels a fondness towards this person that is wholly different than his fondness towards his other friends. -After noticing that his thoughts have become a bit overly preoccupied with this crush, Atem starts to question whether or not his feelings are his or he has taken on Yugi’s lovesick emotions. Perhaps Yugi has influenced him? -As much as he doesn’t want to, he must dismiss that. The way he thinks about them is the same, yet different.-This puts Atem in a very peculiar crisis, and he makes a little promise to himself that he will leave this alone; he won’t tell Yugi. He knows that Yugi will immediately concede for the sake of Atem’s happiness, a trait that Atem complains about sometimes. He doesn’t want to be another person taking advantage of his little Yugi. Atem would much rather suffer in silence, which he does for a spell.-But one day, their crush gets hurt, and Atem accidentally overwhelms Yugi and takes over bodily control due to his concern. -Yugi may be naive at times, but he isn’t stupid. As soon as their crush is safe and out of harm’s way, he’s going to question his partner’s previous passionate behavior.-It is actually quite difficult for Atem to hide things from Yugi, so the jig is up pretty fast. -Yugi’s not upset so much as fearful in that moment. He has memories of Anzu favoring the taller, stronger Atem in the past.-Atem understands this, and assures Yugi that he won’t try to overshadow him. He does his best not to devalue him.-Yugi is at a loss for words. He wants everyone to be happy, but…this is going to be torture for him.-He actually spends a few days not wearing the Millenium puzzle. He knows there’s really only one way to move on from this: they were both going to have to confess to their crush.-At one point he considered dueling for the crush. But Yugi’s not sure if he could even come close to beating Atem, and he doesn’t want to risk it. And, of course, their crush is their own person, not a prize.-Yugi had been flirting with the idea of confessing for awhile, but with this new revelation, he feels more pressure and dread than ever. -Although he tells Atem up and down that he is not upset with him, Atem knows better. He feels a new tenseness when they speak to each other. -At first, Atem is against Yugi’s idea of a dual confession. He wants to simply remain out of it. How much can they do when he and Yugi share a body? The potential for awkwardness and jealousy is outstanding. But Yugi tells him he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life wondering. That does it.-So there they are, standing in front of their crush, nearly blindsiding them as each boy flashes back and forth in the singular body.-Yugi stands there, voice a little shaky, cheeks flushed, and eyes shiny. His sincerity is positively heart-melting.-Atem approaches with caution, body slightly tense. His eyes are dark and focused on his crush. He confesses his feelings with a confident voice, easily masking the nerves that he undoubtedly has.-How in the world will their crush decide?
