             the older girl stood very still, listening. a blink + you’ll miss it sniffle, accompanied with a push up of her glasses. given the door this room was hidden behind, she’d expected something more obviously haunted. old, creaky hardwood, cobwebs, the entire haunted mansion blow out. instead, it looked like a woman’s parlor, only lisa frank’s slightly drab older sister had decorated. the colors, even in the low light, were garish. annette squinted, looking around as she stepped in. “g-g-gotta b-be -- a-a p-p-polt-terg-geis-st.”

“you missed.“ with an awkward, somewhat-empathetic smirk-grimace, victor knelt down and offered the girl his hand, almost as if he were approaching an injured dog. living patients weren’t really his THING; he worked in the morgue for a reason - he had no idea how to comfort actual living injured people. “here, I can help. I’m a doctor. do you want a ride to the hospital? from what I can see, it doesn’t look TOO bad, just a bit of a fracture.“

            her lopsided smile spreads easily across her freckled features. she twirls one curl around a finger, nodding. “y-yeah, o-ok-kay.”

           she smiles, hands fidgeting with the pen she’s long since abandoned, some sentence or other half-written. her glasses are halfway down her nose, + she looks up at her friend. “y-y’kno-ow, i r-read s--som-mewhere th-that, uh. it was-s ... c-cocon-nut cr-crabs-s that g-got am-melia earh-hart. th-they’re b-b-big.”

       ‘  look  what  i  bought !  ’    pale  hands  draw  a  spray  bottle  from  the  tote  bag  hanging  off  her  shoulder ,  and  percy  spritzes  it  straight  up  into  the  air  TWICE  with  a  laugh .   ‘  it’s  for  our  good  buddy  bug  boy .   next  time  he  gets  annoying ,  BAM !  ’   another  spritz ,  another  laugh .
