fire opal & snowflake obsidian gemsona headcanons, pt. 1 !!
obsidian takes days, if not weeks, to regain her physical form when it’s been destroyed. this is because she “ has to be perfect ” when she emerges from her gemstone. thus, opal is forced to cart her heavy - ass rock - form around the entire time. he hates it, but he goes through with it ; after a few days, though, obsidian’s weighty gemstone is usually just kept in his jacket pocket or in a jar somewhere on their spaceship. this makes obsidian mad af.
opal is very careful when it comes to protecting his gemstone --- as a result, he often isn’t all that careful when it comes to protecting the rest of his body, which subsequently gets the hell beaten out of it in exchange for keeping his gemstone safe. he frequently loses his physical form from stupid accidents or fights.
obsidian gets bored / impatient really fast with waiting for opal to emerge from his gemstone, so she ends up messing with it. a lot. she’ll holler into it, bounce it around, & even lick it to encourage opal to get his ass in gear & come out. when she’s too lazy to keep an eye on his gemstone, she’ll store it in her cleavage “ to keep him warm. ” opal is aware of everything she’s doing & ends up beating the shit outta her when he finally emerges, red - faced.
obsidian is kinda in love with how pretty fire opal’s gemstone is, being a cannibalistic gem. however, she doesn’t get to see it that often, since opal is so protective of it. thus, she’ll semi - regularly punch opal out of his physical form, so she can play with his gemstone. he hates her so much for this ; it makes him even more jumpy.
opal’s favorite animal transformations are jaguars & falcons. obsidian’s favorite animal transformations are minks & hyenas.
obsidian enjoys fusing with opal because he’s got such raw, destructive energy built up within himself that he keeps a mostly firm lid on, only letting it leak out in irritation & anger. she often forces him to fuse with her, making it a fusion built on negativity that soon comes apart after running wild ( think of fire & ice of an equal intensity trying to be kept inside the same container ). however, when they emerge from their fusion, opal feels abnormally heavy with relaxation, almost at peace ------ having just blown out all of his accumulated stress alongside obsidian.

fire opal shot a glare over his shoulder at the other gem, twisting his neck as far as he could manage, being up to his armpits inside the gutted interior of their ( stolen ) star cruiser. it hadn’t been all that great of a ship to begin with, but the best option, at the time ------ beggars couldn’t be choosers, in their case. now, though ---------
