Saving Energy Isn't Just for Babies!
Just think about it. Babies are all about conserving energy. They sleep all the time and they don't drive. When was the last time you saw a baby turn on a light switch or an electric appliance? Babies don't have to be the only ones to conserve energy, you can too! Let's explore some of the ways that we can conserve energy.
Starting on the local level, here are a few things that we can consider. To save the precious energy that gets wasted as you drive, you could walk or bike to your destination. It might not be as fast, but it can save a lot of energy and it's more efficient. Or, if you need to drive, a more energy-efficient vehicle would be the way to go. Some of the options available today are smaller cars that get more miles per gallon of gas, hybrid vehicles and electric cars.
At home, some of the ways we could save precious energy include installing adequate insulation, unplugging our unused appliances, using less hot water, and buying energy efficient products. Installing adequate insulation offers a warmer home without using up too many resources to heat it. When an appliance is plugged in, it uses energy regardless of whether it is in use or not. Heating water can waste energy, and it really helps if you take shorter showers or lower the water to a moderate temperature. Energy efficient products stay true to their name -- They save energy that could be used in less efficient products of the same type. You may find that there are far more ways of saving energy, and these are only a few things to do to keep our valuable energy.
On a national scale, there are many problems regarding the conservation of energy. Many people involved in politics refuse to acknowledge global warming and the harmful effects it can have on the world. We need to elect more politicians who don't attempt to deny science in favor of their own religious ideologies. We need to have elected leaders that recognize and acknowledge that global warming does indeed exist and who are also willing to promote and fund green-energy technology and innovation. We need more people without the "Drill, baby, drill" mentality. Besides, we all know babies don't drill. They're all about conserving energy, afterall. Thankfully, organizations are springing up all over the US to help conserve energy and promote a clean world.
Globally, some very exciting things are happening with energy and energy conservation. India, for one, is beginning a very ambitious project. They are building one of the largest solar power plants the world has seen! It is said that the project will reach completion in 2016, which means it will be finished in just three years! With more clean energy, the world will be a lot greener! In other news, there's a possibility that straw might become a big energy resource in Germany. They have a lot of factors to consider, but it might just become something big. Of course, Germany isn't the only place where straw is a big energy resource. Denmark is considered the leader in straw-based energy and may be inspiring other countries to follow in its footsteps.
97% of scientists worldwide are in agreement that global warming is an issue. The world is finally paying attention to global warming, which is great news. I guess we are finally taking our first baby steps in conserving energy, and what happens next lies in the future.
