iHome iDL100 Clock Radio
If you actually spend time producing music or recording music on your tablet device, mainly the iPad, shouldn’t there be an easier way to transmit and receive audio from it? I know this sound like I’m a lazy person, but it would be nice to hear the audio (and decent audio at that) directly from the iPad without having to plug wires into a headphone to RCA jack. Wireless audio is a good remedy to this, but it comes with its own problems as well, like the iPad’s battery running out and needing to charge it simultaneously. Radio and clock combos that also offer a charging station are nothing new for apple devices. Ever since the first iPod was released, peripherals have been created to satisfy the demand for a docking solution. Some of them have been poorly executed and have had problems like subpar speaker, or poor communication between the two devices. Others like the iHome iDL100 Clock Radio has literally been iterated to perfection. One neat feature of this dock is its backwards compatibility or legacy features – meaning it will accommodate older devices as well as new ones. I will say that it looks a bit odd having an huge tablet docked on such a small clock radio, but it seems to work. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/lifestyle-desktop-and-portable/ihome-idl100-clock-radio-lightning-docks
Behringer iX16 iPad mixer dock
For all of the possibilities the iPad opens up for you, it isn’t the most proactive device when it comes to tying components together. Either Apple has failed to see the underlying need to have peripherals connected to their device, or they do, and they want to look at other ways of approaching the problem. Only have a 30 pin connector (or lightening connector) and a standard audio jack outlet, has been a severely limiting problem with the iPad. But then again, it was never meant to be used as an active device with inputs, rather, it was meant to be a passive device to looking and listening. Accessory makers like IK Multimedia have honed in on these issues, creating an accessory for just about any need you may encounter. One such product is the audio dock, which turns the iPad into a physical mixing board, not just a virtual one. Mackie’s DJ1608 attempts to replace a modern mixing board, but it comes at such a steep price that it might just be better to buy the hardware version. Now Behringer has unleashed their smaller version of the same mixing board, the iX16, which looks much more portable and wallet friendly. http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/namm-2013-behringer-ix16-ipad-mixer-dock-570159
Multi-Charging Dok Station
The iPad was designed to be “designed”, if you know what I mean. Even though the iOS comes with a slew of self endorsed programs, many users ignore them and simply download their own apps to use with the device. It is no different than the bloatware that comes on a PC with a preinstalled version of Windows 8. iPod users understand this and it does not affect then, as much as it used to – as these programs are easy to remove and ignore altogether. It is the app designers who make the platform such a magical one – not Apple itself. There is also another side to the iPad that can be explored by creators and designers, the hardware. Since the iPad is such a sleek device, it lends itself to being built into other objects. You can think of it as something similar to an SD card, or a five inch floppy disk that can be inserted into a slot. Companies such as IK Multimedia and Numark have even integrated the iPad directly into their hardware (literally). All that is left is to make a alarm clock unit that can house any one of these tablet devices, and it has been executed well. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/lifestyle-desktop-and-portable/dok-cr34-station-video
