jim definitely has a preference for being the little spoon. he’s short af (actually a friend, @snipertigermoran reminded me today that in canon sherlock calls jim ‘short-arse’ in the victorian episode lmao fucking wild) and his preference in lovers are... bigger than him, by far. i think his shortest ship partner/lover on this blog out of the lot is like 5’9 (chilton, @cozeios) and other than that the majority are 6’ and up.

jim likes affection, in fact he vies for it as long he’s of steady footing in the actual ‘relationship’ (or usually lack thereof) so any little things like spooning where it’s just a lover’s arm over his waist- he eats that up. he’s just so selective on who he’s ‘giving’ with because he’s a ‘taker’ as a person. spooning someone in return seems like a lot more giving intimacy than taking it so i could see him spooning someone in return but tbh at this moment in time only with like... some of his closest plotted relationships where he actually feels something for that other person and struggles it with happens now and then but not often.

i think... this is one of those things where as much as jim would relish in doing it, 98% of the time he’ll stop himself because ‘no, that’s too sentimental’... he is much more likely to grab something of someone elses and debate wearing it if he’s alone, so i do suppose he could be ‘caught in the act’.

     curled comfortably in the passenger seat, richard glares at his open phone screen (large iphone propped upon the dash) as he messes with the seat-belt, waiting for a response to pop up. “i can’t,” help it, is the unspoken- help the beck and call, he means. it’s... probably not important. “sorry. i just haven’t spoken with my brother in a bit. like, almost a year. it’s probably not important,” he does finally voice out loud, figuring it’s important to voice the reason behind his ‘distraction’.

     “come here,” richard demands, leaning across the console, a hand finding... whatever’s nearest to grasp as he tries for a kiss. “i was thinking about taking saturday night off so you wouldn’t have to wait another two weeks before seeing me again.” it’s a... comfortable, if new companionship. mostly, richard just enjoys having someone to listen. (and touch.)
