I was wondering, does any teacher not working in The Netherlands have any experience in working at a “iPad school”? I’m not even sure if that term is being used outside of The Netherlands, to be honest.
Other terms I’ve heard are “Steve Jobs-school”, or “O4NT” (Education For Modern Times). I think “21st century skills education” might be a good translation.
Basically, all of the courses are centred around digital working methods (smart boards, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, etc). Instead of working with one teacher, in one classroom, the students all have their own individual learning programs on their own tablets. As I understand it, the kids sign in to workshops and units with their tablets. They go to different work rooms (one for maths, one for language, etc), and do their assignments on their tablets. Teachers are not called teachers anymore, they are called “coach”.
Does anybody have any experience working on a school like this? I’m asking, because my old primary school is becoming an iPad school (at least, that’s what the plan is at the moment). The overall impression I’ve got from teachers around here, is that they are not very positive about the development. But of course, they don’t have any experience with this type of school yet. I would like to hear from someone who has been working with this method for a longer period.
