SugaTula: A Witnessed Ancient Legend
A MASTERPIECE..even I who is not really not much of a fan of art itself can really say aloud. At first when I entered the theatre, honestly I thought that it would be really boring (I really forgot how awesome their last performance since it was a long ago) and I don’t know repetitive I guess but as soon as the play started my jaw literally drop with my eyes wide open, I mean, the way they portray themselves as folklore characters and as inanimate objects was really high class, and how they enacted a beautiful poem into a play.
The 100 pesos ticket fee for 30 minutes was really worth it although I’ll admit that there were some parts of the play that I didn’t fully understand or never knew at all since I was able to miss one play because I got to the play late since I had classes then.
My favorite part was the “Legend of the Maria Christina Falls” because I really saw the passion, burning within the eyes of the performers while they were enacting how the legend came to be, and also the part when the guys were wearing cavemen-like attire with their bamboo sticks and they were yapping “tusok..tusok” while making funny faces towards another was really funny. The part entitled “Crossing the River” by Anthony Tan really shivered me up to the point where I had goosebumps because the performers where portraying themselves as dead people or ghosts.
Some or MAYBE mostly of the students here in Mindanao State University complained about the ticket fee but I think that we should be honored that we are able to see a prodigious performance more commonly and for a very fair price because I heard from our instructors that other schools rarely witness that kind of performance and also the Integrated Performing Arts Guild also known as IPAG are known for their outstanding awards both in and out of the country so it should not be ignored lightly.
I should’ve known that the performance of IPAG would amaze me again. I hope that I would be able to witness more from them in the coming future.
