Ira Yeager: Portraits of Nobility

Opening Saturday, August 22nd Artist Reception, 4 - 6 pm Ira Yeager is one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most significant and widely collected contemporary painters. In his nearly sixty year career, he has mastered a distinct style and subject matter, from deeply reverential Native American portraiture  to impressionistic landscape paintings inspired by his many travels around the globe, his current home in Northern California, and the vistas of his beloved New Mexico.

"I do things out of excitement" What fun we had last week with Ira Yeager. He shared stories of his life as an artist, from Washington state to the island of Korfu, Tangiers, Morocco, and Florence. He regaled us with tales working in the Bay Area and studying with Richard Diebenkorn, who he said was tall, shy, sensitive, sweet and kind and instructed his students to never use black. We had a history lesson on the island of Korfu. While Ira was there he made many friends, one told him "but you have hands of gold" - we could not agree more. Ira's was born with an innate ability to create. Some of his drawings for paintings are done while half-asleep/dreaming! He considers himself lucky to not have become famous like Bishoff or Diebenkorn because he was always able to do what he wanted to do. Perhaps the most inspiring moment of the day was upon answering what is success Ira stated: "Success is not fame or fortune, success is inside you as a person, success is who I am inside." Words of wisdom. Thank you to everyone who shared this special day with us!
