D. Prosper and Flying Lotus's year-old collaboration, "Elephant Ride" FINALLY gets visuals...and for a great cause. I'm an animal lover in general, but for some reason I often have dreams with elephants in them. But before we get to the video, let's talk about the song.
I think I'm ready to make it official... Flying Lotus is on my 'top 5 producers alive' list. He's GREAT at what he does. This beat sounds like a hybrid of a DOOM, a RZA, and a Jay Electronica beat. In fact, when Prosper jumps on the track, his voice even sounds a bit like Jay Elect. The beat is amazing. The rhymes are top notch. The song is dope. You can download the full album here.
Now to the video...
The video is basically a public service announcement, advocating for the protection of African Elephants. Even though there was only one scene, it was highly effective and beautifully done. To summarize the message of the video, if illegal elephant poaching is not stopped, "African Elephants will be extinct by 2025". Can you imagine that? That sounds crazy to me! Anyway, for more information, check out the video, but also go to the website, www.elephantri.de.
In D.Prosper's own words:
There are 500,000 African elephants in existence. Upwards of 25,000 of those elephants are being killed per year. The idea for the song Elephant Ride was to enlighten people on human rights and digital rights while the visual animation component deals with anti-poaching for animal rights." -DProsper
