"I’ll see you later, yeah? Just don't forget to call the sitter OK?” Leaning across from her to collect the breakfast plates,he pecked his wife on the cheek before leaving for work.
It was a good arrangement— they couldn't be expected to go for days on end following the same daily routine, after all. It was why they hired babysitters two nights a week, leaving them free to do whatever they wanted for those particular evenings. It usually only involved dinner and a movie, but it was good to a walk on the beach, where they shared their first kiss, without the twins in tow sometimes, as much as he loved Beth and Jonah.Three year old weren't always the best when it came to long driving trips.
He was already waiting outside her office at a quarter to six, the engine of his car still running. The pair waited around for the babysitter to arrive before heading off for dinner, reassured that the twins wasn't home alone.
They got the call mere moments after placing their orders— their sitter had fallen sick, and wasn't feeling up for looking after anyone for tonight. Well, there was nothing they could do about it, was there? They got their food packed up, making their way home as quickly as possible.
Back home, they found the sitter waiting on the couch, looking uncomfortable and..sick. Jonah, meanwhile, had his face glued to the television screen, looking completely enraptured and Beth sitting next to her doll house playing with the dolls.Elise was by the babysitter’s side almost instantly, her motherly instincts kicking in. The least she could do was to make sure that the girl was as comfortable as possible until her parents arrived to take her home.
By the time Elise got back to the living room after sending the babysitter off, she was met with the sight of Sam on the couch, Beth and Jonah curled up asleep at his side. “No date night, then.” Elise murmured, reaching for a remote to turn the volume of the telly down, not wanting to wake their twins up.
Not that he minded the missed date night very much, when he paused to consider it.Spending time with Elise was more than enough.
