that's totally fine, everyone has their own tastes! it just bugs me to see people discount experiences of horror that don't personally do it for them (like i love weird slow beyond the black rainbow kind of stuff, creeping dread and existentialism and human horror with supernatural elements, philosophical horror, so tma hits a lot of my niches) and also i think it's interesting the way different kinds of horror develop fear and suspense. sorry if i came across a bit aggro

No worries! I love discussion and debate, but it’s hard to convey nuance over text, so by default, I consider anything short of “you’re a fucking idiot and I hate you” as not aggressive.

My theory for the main tenets of horror are the grotesque, the unknown, and despair. Any horror story can contain one or all of them. I’m more afraid of the unknown, while it sounds like you’re really afraid of despair.

the unknown: the dark, the eye, the vast, the stranger, the web, the spiral

despair: the lonely, the end, the buried, the vast, the web, extinction
