This is just a small portion from a hinge strap.  The dragon head finial stands out, but it wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for the pyramid nails used to fasten it to the wood.  Another brilliant example of “art in the everyday” brought to us by a blacksmith in an age long ago. It’s an inspirational image, to say the least.
