HC + forgiveness
–– - ➸ sᴇɴᴅ ᴀ ᴡᴏʀᴅ ❮ @ironmaidxn ❯
He almost never expects it, knowing full well that he’s a royal fuckup that often deserves to be treated the way he is. Recognizes that he often doesn’t deserve it from the people that have forgiven him. Often times, the most difficult task is to forgive himself for the mistakes and bad choices that have made him the way he is. For Clint, saying sorry to himself and accepting it is an astronomical task that requires too much effort. Honestly, he’d rather sleep and forget, move on and make excuses to dig himself into a deeper hole rather than try to climb out of the one he’s in.
On the other hand, forgiving others is not something he considers as personal as being forgiven. Sometimes he is stubborn and will pout rather than accept an apology. Waiting until he feels like his point was made to forgive someone. Other times, giving forgiveness is as easy as breathing. Few times, Clint will refuse to forgive someone for something they’d done, no matter how many apologies he receives. It’s really all a matter of the person and his relationship with them.
HC + Regret, Dreams, Irreplaceable
Regret:
Steve deals with regret by using his hands. He regrets watching New York burn and not being faster by growing a beard and helping with the clean up. The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity has no idea that the Steve that comes to help on projects every few months is Steve needing to not focus on the faces and the screams of the people he regrets not saving. Steve doesn’t truly believe in an acceptable margin of loss, but he’s learned to deal with it by doing his best to create.
He spends time in the care facility that has Peggy helping out and working with veterans at the VA not for the sake of being charitable. But because in those moments he doesn’t feel the same aching pull that he does when he doesn’t help someone else. His charity is sometimes selfish.
The funny thing is he regrets that too.
Dreams:
Steve’s dreams are hyper realistic. The way his brain functions now means it’s all too real. The nightmares feel that much closer to reality because he can hear the creak of the ice as it swallows the jet and the sound of the water against the sides and the tinny echo of his voice against metal as he keeps talking to Peggy. Planning a life that never was while he drags himself up and onto a flat surface while he waits to die. He can feel the heat of the fire in New York and hear the screams of the civilians flooding the streets. The only time his dreams aren’t plagued by modern failures are when it’s raining and he falls asleep to the sound on his window. Then the memories are World War II, slightly sepia toned but full of a bright sense of purpose and Peggy’s smiles and Bucky clapping a hand on his back. His expression too serious but he’s there, and real and Steve’s friend through and through. If he’s really lucky it goes further back and Bucky’s arm is slung around his too small shoulders and Steve can hear the sound of his mother laughing. This rarely happens and when it does it is almost as painful as when it isn’t memories at all. But instead the endless play of how things could have gone more wrong. More people crying and falling and he is left unable to stop any of it.
Steve’s favorite nights are the ones where he doesn’t dream at all.
Irreplaceable:
Nothing is irreplaceable when you’ve lost as much as Steve Rogers has. The only thing Steve truly finds irreplaceable these days are relationships. And he still manages to loose those.

How Odelia found herself to be in Massachusetts was the very same question she was asking privately in her thoughts while she walked across the University grounds of MIT. A relatively nice campus, nothing like the business school she attended but this served its purpose. Teaching the young Toni Stark, or was it the other way around?
Some days Odelia couldn't quite place her finger on it. Though Stark's daughter was a prodigy, it seemed like said genius to be was more trouble than she was worth. Stane found promise however in the crumbling relationship between father and daughter. Where Howard failed to meet Toni's expectations, Odelia was a fine enough replacement.
She found it unfortunate however that she had to keep up the act constantly simply to appear as doting as any parental figure. Children were after all quite troublesome, especially when they found such attitude gave them attention. Speak of the devil, Odelia smiled just as she ran into the young girl she was searching for. "So this is where you've been hiding? And here I was beginning to worry you had quit taking classes already out of boredom."

Natasha had been doing her best to avoid people since moving into Stark Tower, but unfortunately, she still required food. She felt odd asking Jarvis to have something delivered, so she snuck into the kitchen, hoping to grab some cereal and leave. She frowned when she saw that Toni was there, but Toni had probably heard her walk in.
“Hey, Stark.”

Natasha is already old, she’s turning 87 this year, going to take a Very long time to look old. I’m honestly not sure that she’d make it to an age where she’d have gray hair, and an aging body. Though Natasha is the epitome of a survivor, it’s entirely possible that at some point she’ll get into a fight she can’t win to save people or save someone she loves.
If she does make it that far, I think she’d be more closed off, she’d still be keeping up with how to use modern tech so she can’t be outwitted with it. Ultimately Natasha chooses again and again to care about people instead of being closed off now, but I think after many, many years of losing people she’s loved it would get much harder.
If she ever entered something like retirement, if she made it that far and was at a point where she’d feel confident that her retirement wouldn’t have a cost measured in human lives, I think she’d want to train younger heroes. Mentoring young heroes now is something she finds fulfilling and that she really enjoys. Or she could take a role in leading or directing an intelligence organization/the Avengers instead of doing field work.
