Sneak Peak - Naruto AU Week

I appear to accidentally have a few fics for @naruto-au-week on the go (for prompts: apocalypse, fantasy, mythology and folktales).

I don't usually start fics this far ahead, but I've got a busy schedule with zines and events, so figured I'd try and get a head start so I don't have to rush myself last minute like I did for Kakashi Week (hehe oops).

Anyway, here's a snippet for my fic for the prompt 'Apocalypse' with the pairing of Iruka/Tobirama:

Iruka hisses at the sting of the cannula being pulled out, pressing a hand to his neck to staunch the sluggish bleeding, his body already healing the small puncture wound.

“How long have I been gone?” The grim expression on Tobirama’s face says it all, and Iruka takes a shuddering breath, nausea washing over him. “It’s been more than a few days, hasn’t it?”

“There isn’t time for this, Iruka. Put these on.”

A bundle of clothing is dropped on the bed beside him: sweat pants, tee, hoodie, and socks; all of them tattered and frayed and stained with blood. Iruka’s stomach churns at the implication behind Tobirama bringing him clothing that looks like it had been scavenged off a dead body. “How. Long,” Iruka grits out, tugging on the clothing. “Tell me.”

It’s then that he finally sees just how weary Tobirama looks, shoulders sagging as he sighs. “6 months. You’ve been gone for 6 months.”

For Iruka it feels like it was only yesterday that he was saying goodbye to his friends for the evening as they left his and Tobirama’s apartment. He remembers taking out the trash before bed, then the sting of a needle in his neck and the panic at knowing that for how careful he’d been, they had finally found him.

It's sort of a Resident Evil AU (think of the films) in terms of the corrup corporation and monsters, but only vaguely.

Iruka/Tobirama headcanons:

Can I just say how much I adore this pairing? They are one of my fave rarepairs, and I especially love the artwork @dahtwitchi makes for them.

Anyway - Tobirama is first drawn to Iruka because for his love of children and teaching, his intellect and sharp, witty humour. Sure, he finds Iruka attractive but it's the non physical things that truly seal the seal for him.

Same for Iruka. Also, where other people see a cold, uncaring and sarcastic person, Iruka sees through all of that for who Tobirama really is - someone who cares greatly about others but isn't sure how to express it. The man is passionate, and Iruka is one of the first to truly see that.

Both enjoy reading and learning, and in their spare time, you'll often find them at home together in their own personal library, cuddled up on the sofa together quietly reading or excitedly sharing with one another something new they've learned.

They're not a fan of PDA, but in private, both are very tactile. Lots of touches, kisses, cuddles, hand holding and soft smiles.

Blood Red - A fave piece of dialogue from a WIP?

The chakra smoke finally dissipated inside the barrier and Iruka could only look on in shock, the one and only Nidaime, Tobirama Senju staring back at him.

Oh kami, I've captured the Nidaime?! Wait.. what? Why is Tobirama Senju in my barrier? Maybe I need to sleep more.

“Iruka, are you okay?” A gloved hand landed on his shoulder and squeezed tightly, firm and reassuring. 

Looking to his side, Iruka found Kakashi, no, Hound - he was in his ANBU gear after all - looking at him with concern. 

“I- I just caught Tobirama Senju in my barrier,” Iruka said, disbelief clear in his voice.

“So you did, Sensei,” Hound laughed. “I need you to take your barrier down.”

Ice Blue - Ship trope you think is overused in writing?

Sex fixes everything. It drives me absolutely bonkers. Especially where a relationship that's fucked up is concerned. Let's just have sex and ta-da! Problem solved. *eye roll*
