No, they are not alien. These are Greater Sooty Owls. Yes, they move in creepy ways. Yes, they make some pretty odd sounds. I can assure you they are just run-of-the-mill Australian weird, though, not alien weird.
Still would not recommend approaching them, but that's not really my business if you do.
