Danny’s PTSD regarding the hospital. It was hinted at during London Spy, during Danny’s last conversation with Alex. He told him he had been hospitalised after making a mistake with posting a wanted ad online - an infection scare. He had a bad reaction to emergency HIV treatment. The actual datum on reactions to post-exposure prophylaxis is... not pretty. Its rare to actually survive a reaction to it, and for the course of a full month Danny would not have been able to keep any food down, have very little control over any bodily functions, his organs would have been on the verge of shutting down if not starving for nutrients.
Ever since then, he’s been terrified of anything to do with the spread of STD/STIs, to the point where he ran out on his fiance without looking back simply because during a party, he was being pressured into having sex without a condom being used.
I like this bit of his backstory because it takes a thing that Danny let define who he was when he was a teenager - wild, sexual, addicted, and a textbook definition of a slut - and forced him to take three hundred steps back and reevaluate his goals and redefine himself.
