I just went traipsing through the Other Side's tumblr tag for a bit (even though I have hopefully most of That Side blocked for sanity's sake) -- and Rose! It's, like, so strange????? This isn't meant to bash them at all, more just being 🤯 from a sociological standpoint?? Like we're all looking at the same archive if you will, but have diametrically opposed readings of that archive??? Night & day lived experiences of this shared dumb archive????????!?

If you've seen the show Seinfeld and get my reference*, we are truly seeing the bizarro world spn experience -- and it just busts my mind straight open like a pinata. (x_x)

i have watched seinfeld (and loved it) but for any of my followers who haven't i included your explanation lmao. the thing is... i might be fairly new to this fandom, but i already know how the other side operates and nothing surprises me anymore. i don't really want to get into it because i do pride myself for staying mostly positive on this blog, and it's not like i would be saying anything that we don't all already know and/or think, so.

Hi steph, this is a kinda personal question but do u have any advice on coming out to ur parents? I want to tell them I'm bi but i'm rly scared haha.

*HUGS* Honestly? I don’t.... I’ve never had to do the thing, and when I did come out, it was only to a select few people I trust. The most frustrating one was my open-minded aunt who didn’t understand asexuality and didn’t understand how I could possibly not want sex, so I tried my best LOL. Everyone else I told – My sister and my three closest friends – just shrugged and was all good, LOL. 

When I did, though, I went from “people I trusted the most” to “I just need a close family member to talk to”. My sister was the first, and she took it all in stride. My first best friend, it was on a drive home late night and I just blurted it out; she thanked me for trusting her so much to do that. Her partner was next, since I guessed she told him already, and then my aunt because she mentioned her best friend came out to her as pansexual, which I used as an opportunity to spring on that discussion LOL.

So yeah, it’s all about comfort levels and trust, and if you feel safe: See, I don’t have many consequences in the sense that if I tell someone I don’t live with and they don’t accept it, well, fuck ‘em, I’m not talking to them anymore. It’s a lot different if it’s your parents that you are living with and dependent upon.

I don’t think it’s really my place to say how to handle this, since my experience is really not helpful this time. Logically speaking, I say “when the time feels right” and “if you know your parents are okay with LGBT then together” or “tell the parent you trust the most”. It’s a tough call Nonny. 

Anyone able to help out better than me, here? I know we have a lot of older fandom folks here <3
