Alumni Lecture: Isa Wang
Isa Wang (MFA AP19) returns to SVA (virtually) to discuss his creative practice. Wang is a Massachusetts-based artist whose work focuses on intersecting identities from the lens of American consumerism. With a background in retail, Wang combines handmade and found objects with a commercial design aesthetic to examine the representation of marginalized communities in pop culture. Wang’s practice centers around the possibility of transformation via a mix of mediums and genres. Autobiographical artifacts are juxtaposed against broad marketing imagery, while cultural and gendered boundaries are traversed with performative and interactive elements.
Wang holds a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts in Boston and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he was a recipient of the SVA Alumni Scholarship Award, the Art Practice Thesis Project Grant, and the Art Practice Thesis Award.
The lecture will take place via Zoom on June 17th at 3:00PM EST, and is free and open to the public.
