the turning & tuning inside
pulling out the dirt & grime
it’s infected my heart & mind.
You begin the dissection of my pride
my ego promised to protect me from shame
instead, it buried me the very next day.
Pound my chest until i’m changed!
food has lost its flavor & i have no resting place
who have i but me to blame?
i’m going under, into a room called “emergency”
for the extraction of sin
& the restoration of faith
You see the idols i’ve made
to mimic God but make sin okay.
It’s easier to say, “i’d die for God”
than to embrace human hate
i don’t like this way of thinking
i’m about to self-destruct, 15, 14, 13
hurting people close to me.
i hear the Gospel speaking
but the traffic steals my gaze
i sell my love for adoration
i’m completely empty & drained
i’ve gained nothing by rebelling.
Christ’s blood is my salvation
then why do i act like a slave?
Back on my knees in repentance.
broken by sin because of grace
this is where God meets me
the floor against my face
He doesn’t remind me of my sinking
He lifts my eyes & gives me songs of praise!
He cleanses me from all my filthy stains
i rather be a fool for Christ
than wise to the blind who lack in faith.
liberty at the feet of the only God who saves!
1 Corinthians 1:18-19, 2-31
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,
‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’
