Sunburst Out Of Here
He was gone.
I had to deal with him, even if I didn't want to. The retreat was vacant; the ricochet of our heated discussion no longer would bounce around the walls.
Now when I walk these halls, it feels like my home again.
Be gone, Sunburst.
Ranger Sunburst had thought his passing of the training meant he was really a Farstrider, but a Ranger isn't a Farstrider just because he knows the titles and has a good shot with a bow and arrow. Sunburst over-stepped his lines when he decided to take the being a Ranger to his head, and that meant a certain Lieutenant was not doing his job and keeping his Rangers in check. Sunburst wasn't th root of the problem, though his cocky attitude would still have him return to the station of a recruit and once again go through the basic classes and training to become a Farstrider. His final test will have nothing to do with skill and everything to do with how he treats others.
If he fails to hold up the standards of a Farstrider in the way of attitude toward others, he will be returned to the basic Silvermoon Army; they seem to have no problem with rudeness and cocky bullshit, as long as the work is done and well.
Adalynn brought the issue up when she mentioned she was on a patrol as punishment for something or another. My mind reeled at the idea of a recruit taking on a patrol ... and more at the problems it will cause with the Army for any Farstrider patrol within the City. Silvermoon City was part of Quel'Thalas, and we roam it freely as law-abiding officials, but the voice of the Farstriders is below that of the Silvermoon Army, even if we have the same General leading us. The Regeant Lord made sure the Ranger-General of Quel'Thalas had less power than previously.
Still, this was a serious issue; a Ranger, just recently passing all the tests and exams, trying to assume Officer power because of his slightly higher rank was a disgrace and a disgusting thing to deal with. Information told me that he even had the group he was the leader of call him 'sir' as if he had real power! I will have to examine the training sessions and remind the Sergeants in charge that tradition must be upheld to keep the Farstriders diligant and a Noble defense. The Farstrider ranks are made of all ranks of citizens and hold the same respect for a noble as a homeless ally ... hopefully they will remember this.
Captain Isardeth Alament has not technically taken on full command of the Company, so I put the report of what was going on at his official noteboard. As a First Sergeant, I am to watch over the recruits pulled in by my Battalion along with the three other First Sergeants and their assistant Sergeants. When we find an issue, we have every right and power to find the best solution. Sadly, in this case it meant a meeting with not only the Ranger, but his Commanding Officers as well.
We gathered at the Farstrider Retreat; the Ranger in question, his Captain, and the First Sergeant that accepted the Ranger into the Farstriders. It was short, but Ranger Sunburst sure thought he was in control; his voice carried easily, though it was not hard to tell his fear made he fall silent as we all looked at him coldly. Soon after we had a solution put into place and Sunburst was stripped of his privileges and returned to the recruit placement in Silvermoon City while the recruits he was working with were moved to start their real training out in Eversong.
Ranger-Lord Stardrifter will receive the report after Captain Alament makes sure all the information is accurate, working with the other Captain to verify the account.
Gil had been waiting at the camp late that night with a mug of crude tea, a warm fire, and a welcoming smile. We talked, we watched the stars, and I feel asleep in his arms.
"I knew you would snore, Rya."
