This is for S, who also suffers from renal failure since young. He's on the road to recovery with a kidney transplant but it is not a smooth journey. But that ain't stopping him. My memory of S is strength, calibrated positivity and resolute. He is the master of his own fate. This year, he's gone back to school and enjoying it so much so that he said this is the best thing that's happening to him in a decade (other than meeting Metallica in person. Yes, favorite band. He showed me pictures even). He wants to pick up guitar and drums. He's got dreams but he's also focusing on the present. He knows life is short, time is precarious, circumstances are unexpected, especially for someone like him. When I asked him, what do you believe in? He answered, "It's not the years in your life that counts. It's the life in your years." Abraham Lincoln said that but well said too, S. #tellmeyourstory #iseeyouseeme These short life stories that I've collected and visually interpreted will be displayed along the Esplanade tunnel from Aug 6 to 8 Nov. I invite you to swing by if you've the time to 'see' these people. They've been very generous in sharing their life stories. @miun is an artist. She does floral sculptures, experimental photography and illustration. I've adopted her experimental approach to her craft by inking straight to the paper without sketching in pencil first. The photographic element is missing in this impression but, when or if a viewer takes a picture of 'her', she, as an artist is complete. Because, art communicates. If it relates to someone, or speaks to someone in a language that is specific to him/her, art has fulfilled its purpose. The role of the artist is also fulfilled.
