The Million Dollar Wedding
Post 2
December 19, 2018
The country witnessed one of the most exquisite weddings of the year earlier this December - Isha Ambani wedding Anand Piramal... Legends from different walks confessed to have never seen such a tale of eminence!
A lot of hullabaloo around the grandeur of it with folks questioning - the necessity of spending fortune on just one wedding when millions in India still struggle for survival, the wide-open purchasing power parity divide among citizens of the same country, invitees including Hillary Clinton to big-wigs of Tinsel Town, and the denouncement list goes on...
Parents in traditional India still consider marrying their children to the most appropriate families with best of capacities as their prime responsibility. And every father ensures his daughter moves to the future family with pride especially for the gifts and wedding arrangements they bestowed. They walk that extra mile, to be honest. So the world’s 19th wealthiest man, Mr Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani from India, zeroed-in Beyonce to perform at private pre-wedding ceremony because his daughter is a big Beyonce fan. Fair enough!!
However, I observed numerous occasions of simplicity with virtuousness.
Ambanis selected Udaipur for destination pre-wedding ceremonies instead of plush foreign locations supporting Indian event management companies who employ skilled and unskilled laborers largely, thus indirectly generating revenues for the country. About 5100 impoverished in and around the venue were fed sumptuous meals three times a day for four consecutive days with bride and her family gracefully serving with lot of satisfaction. Lastly, they organized a bazar for their guests supporting local artisans and handicraft. One-of-a-kind activity to be undertaken at personal celebrations!
The SreeNathJi devout family greeted guests with folded hands chanting Jai Shree Krishna and followed all the Gujarati rituals at solemn ceremonies, cherishing their roots. The bride’s affable mother, Nita Ambani was omnipresent! I wondered how did the charming beauty managed time to get ready in her ethereal ensembles! Nevertheless, Mr Anil Dhirubhai Ambani stole the show to me. His gestures from greeting Baratis and guests at the entrance, to participating in family dance op-ed at Sangeet, to attending to logistics at his niece’s wedding were sight of poise, putting inadvertent speculations to the rest for good! The younger Ambani sibling had a fall-out with his older brother following bitter family business separation.
People on social media mocked the Bollywood A-listers for serving food to the guests at wedding. It is one of the most substantial rituals, Sajan Gote, in Marwadi-Gujarati weddings where bride’s family serves food to groom’s family post solemn promises. The take home message is - the relationship Ambanis have nurtured, the love they have spread and their faith in customs and traditions that brings ease to everyone around them! I am very positive, no one must have asked @srbachchan and other celebrities to help serve lunch!
Claimants will keep sulking. The fact is - the gritty Ambanis are performing beyond their corporate social responsibilities with every right to host most expensive and lavish wedding for their children.
@srbachchan
Lots of love,
Neha
