Uryu is Orihime’s gay best friend who is pinning after her other gay best friend Chad.
I have a horrible runny nose and didn’t get too much sleep last night. Instead all I did was think about Chad and Uryuu, for whatever reason. This is what I came up with:
Chad is bad with words. It’s not just that Japanese is his second language and the majority of his thoughts come to him in Spanish, although that’s part of it. He just doesn’t know how to say what he’s thinking. Ichigo’s always been the better one at that- he says exactly what he means, always. Chad has tried to follow that example, but he just can’t seem to get the hang of it. Instead, he tries to let his actions speak for him. But it doesn’t always come across the way the really means it, he’s starting to think.
Uryuu is bad with emotions. He grew up keeping his feelings locked away in a tiny corner of his mind somewhere, leaving them to gather dust. He learned from his father that to display emotion is to show weakness, and Quincys don’t have weaknesses. Now that he’s older he’s slowly becoming more and more aware that that’s not true. Emotion isn’t weakness. But he’s spent so long suppressing his own feelings that he no longer knows how to sort them out from one another. He doesn’t know the names to put to those emotions, and he doesn’t know how to deal with them the way others around him do so easily.
Ichigo and Orihime get married young, barely two years out of high school. They already know that they want to spend the rest of their lives together, they say, so what’s the point in waiting? Chad can’t imagine ever being able to just say something like that so casually, and Uryuu can’t imagine what it’d be like to know something like that with such surety.
Everyone they know comes to the wedding, Shinigami and humans alike. The after party lasts long, long into the night.
While everyone dances, Uryuu sits on the sidelines. Dancing isn’t really his thing. Chad knows this. It isn’t really his thing either. He sits on the sidelines next to Uryuu, just to keep him company. They sit there for hours, just talking.
Renji and Rukia get married shortly after that, surprising everyone. No one thought that they’d ever want an official ceremony, but apparently something about seeing Ichigo and Orihime so happy changed their minds.
Their wedding takes place in Soul Society, and probably every Shinigami in the whole place shows up to celebrate. The venue is packed. There aren’t even any sidelines to sit on, it’s that crowded.
Uryuu and Chad leave through a back door. They spend a couple of hours wandering through the deserted night streets, still just talking.
It’s hard to tell, but Chad gets the impression that Uryuu understands his meaning, even when he can’t put it into words.
It’s hard to tell, but Uryuu thinks that Chad understands that he has a hard time expressing emotions, and doesn’t seem to mind.
Some time goes by after that. They don’t go to any more weddings. Chad focuses on his boxing career. Uryuu focuses on med school.
Somewhere along the line, they realize that they’ve been missing each other for too long. So they make plans to meet up, in a little coffee shop on the main road. They sit, and they talk.
Chad stumbles his way through a confession, tells Uryuu he thinks he has feelings for him. Uryuu breaks down into tears, saying he thinks he has feelings for Chad too. Chad reaches over and wraps his arms around him, and Uryuu lets himself be held. They stay like that for a long time, in the little coffee shop on the main road, and they pay no mind to the other patrons staring at them curiously.
Chad’s still bad with words. Uryuu’s still bad with feelings. But they understand each other perfectly.
They finally understand each other perfectly.
