Here's a unique #penandink #nature #sketch by Kenny Eicher (@sketchy_mcgee) of an owl soaring above the treetops. A flying owl would make for an interesting illustration, but drawing this scene from the viewpoint of a grounded observer (as Kenny has) lifts this inked piece to new heights. (Pun not intended... it's just... appropriate.) The perspective is almost… hopeful. The forest could represent the mundane day-to-day business of life---never changing, every tree trunk is essentially the same, varying slightly from tree to tree, day to day, hour to hour, but they still can be counted and parsed out as individual points in a forest of time. Then you come upon a clearing, a break in the humdrum monotony, like a daydream around 2:45 pm on a boring Friday workday, and the shadow of a bird distracts you. You look up to see the wingspan of an owl cresting the treetops and entering the clearing of your daydream. Soaring above time. Flying free. And you realize that will be you once the damn clock tells you it's 5 PM and you can escape to the weekend! Really cool piece, Kenny.
