A lot of muslims are concerned with "the number of muslim influencers who are taking off their hijabs". But we should be more concerned by the number of muslim influencers promoting 'Deen Buddy'. Its a generative AI system which has been marketed as an "AI Islamic guide"
Islam has always prioritised community and in replacing that community with a soulless husk we are isolating ourselves in our faith.
I get it. It is hard to find others, especially as the world becomes more disconnected physically and as online spaces become more hostile. But I'd rather struggle as I look for people who are also on their spiritual journeys, than feel easily connected to a language model.
And thats not even considering the fact that in using AI to replace genuine human connection I'd be destroying the environment, the creation of Allah (SWT). I'd be endangering humans, especially those from marginalised communties, by poisoning their water. I'd be giving my humanity to a database - my language, my fears, my joy, my everything.
Accepting innovation in Islam shouldn't be at the expense of our morals. Regaining Iman shouldn't put blood on our hands. And we shouldn't be letting our community fires dwindle.
