Surprisingly I think this is the first time I've drawn a turtle so I had a lot of fun with it! Couldn't decide what color to make it either which is why we'll just say it changes color to camouflage itself with the environment since its too large to turn invisible. I was going to add other small details like ruined pillars and buildings, but it got too tedious so we'll imagine that stuff on top is all ghostly trees and other fauna!
I'm so beyond thrilled with how this turned out! I've been wanting to make turtle themed play sets for years and I'm super psyched to finally be doing it!
This is the first piece in what I'm tentatively calling my Turtle World project. She's a worldly traveler, with two small spirit companions who enjoy playing on the world she carries on her back
The Zaratan is the largest oceanic species of chelonian animal on Ancardia, though still dwarfed by the freshwater Longgui. Its size and shape and usual habits are such that lost sailors have often mistaken the high crests of its carapace for small, rocky islands.
Zaratan are massive sea turtles which live their entire lifespans out among the calmest stretches of the temperate and tropical oceans, almost always sticking to the top 3 meters of the water column if not staying right at the surface at all times. Due to this habit, and the leisurely pace the zaratan swims at while feeding or migrating for the breeding season, the shell of this massive turtle often becomes dotted with growths of high-tide barnacles, seaweeds, sea anemone and bivalve molluscs, with the very top shell ridges in older individuals sometimes accumulating sandy, rich biomass enough to host salt-tolerant herbaceous plants such as dune-oats, oyster-leaf, saltbrush and beachburs. Most adult carapaces measure between 2 and 3.2 meters in length, usually nearly 2 meters to 2.4 meters wide. Zaratan basically never dive, and usually swim so that their filter-grooved beaks can skim the topmost meter of water, as their diet is almost entirely comprised of krill, copepods, and comb jellies. Unlike most sea turtles, the zaratan has adapted to never need to return to land no matter how briefly—every few years, these giant turtles congregate in mating gatherings out in the shallow portions of open ocean close to tropical reefs, and once pregnant the cows linger close to the lagoons and mangroves of the islands and coasts. Zaratan are unlike any other chelonian animals in that they retain their eggs and after five months give live birth to between 10 and 30 small zaratan. The little turtles disperse into the more sheltered habitat, and quickly begin feeding on tiny invertebrates and alga. After about five months of growth, the juvenile zaratan have grown large enough to weather most threats in the open reefs—about 1 meter in length now, and only at risk from particularly large sharks or from local humanoid hunters. After three years, a zaratan will have reached 1.5 meters in length and they will enter the open ocean; their growth rate at this point lowers massively, though they grow continuously throughout their lifespan. This is usually somewhere between 70 and 130 years, sometimes significantly longer in ideal conditions.
As seen in this post, I thought of a whole new school called M.M. High. This is the first studies I got so far.
Oceanblu, focus on adventure and risk taking. Founded by the exploration of the tiniest yet mightiest captain. Unlike it NRC counterpart, it students are more fish folks as they are less magical oriented compare to merfolks. Because of this, parts of their true fish form will appear when they have strong emotions. Their uniform are meant to resemble ship crew members. Oceablu also developed new tools and technology to help fish folks like a boat oar for flying class since it float more similar to water waves, which fish folks are more use to.
Characters details down below:
Neo Swimcaster
Captain of Oceablu
Neo is bold and confident, traits necessary to be a good captain. Due her disability, many had look down on her. However, this did not deterred her and made her work harder for her position. She hopes that she can inspire others to do the same. She loves all the students of Oceablu and willing to help out the best she can. Her true form is a clownfish with a stubby fin, contrasting Pinky and Shelly who true forms are more magical. Because of her stubby arm and her bad sense of direction, her single father is worried about her and everyday they exchange letter.

Dislike: Getting lost
Hobby: Boating
Talent: Making puns
Club: Marine Biology Club
Unique Magic: “Way back home” is a reversal spell. It can reverse time up to a minute, can reverse memories to help memories lost, and reverse others’ magic back onto themselves
Pinky Loveland
Friendly freshman
Outgoing and boy hungry, Pinky is the new recruit to the Oceablu crew and she can’t wait to experience the land above. This is her high school debut and she is not going to mess it up! Pinky is from the bottom of the ocean, not only a place filled with monsters, but also gloom and loneliness. When she was younger, many feared Pinky since she is technically a kraken. Her only friends were octopuses grandmas who like to talk and gossip with her. But she is really nice, and just want friends her age...and maybe a boyfriend. Because she is new to the bright side, she get scared easily. Sometimes when its really bad, she will “ink” herself.

Unique Magic: “Release the Kraken” is a powerful but deadly skill. Pinky can summon huge tentacles that can attack opponents, however this drains both her physical and mental health.
Shelly Flo
Chill Vice Captain
When you think of relaxing, you think of Shelly. She always have a cool head and a chill personality. Her true form is actually an island turtle, a sea turtle that can grow plants on its shell. The older the island turtle the larger it will be, which is why they can be thousands of years old and be gigantic. Shelly is still a child, thus is no bigger than a normal sea turtle. And like all sea turtles, Shelly always goes with the flow, letting things just happen to her.

Dislike: Pruning the plants off her shell
Hobby: Vacationing
Talent: Multilingual
Club: Swim club
Unique Magic: “Go with the Flow” allows Shelly to control waves and tides of water.
As you can see, they are suppose to be somewhat foils to Octavinelle.
Also fun fact, the two groups know that they are sea folks but they don’t know what type. Oceablu know that Octavinelle are merfolks, but don’t know that Azul is an octopus and the twins are eels. Likewise for Octavinelle. Pinky has a huge crush on Azul but is scared that he would like her octo-form as she hear rumors from her octofriends that merfolks don’t like octopuses, exceptionally kraken type. Sorry, I just find misunderstandings kinda funny.
