The Prophet first received his spiritual initiation at the hands of his wife, Hazrat Khadijat al-Kubra, who was the hujjat (proof) of Mawlana Imam Abu Talib. The marriage between the Prophet Muhammad and Hazrat Khadijah was both physical and spiritual. It was Hazrat Khadijat, the hujjat, who first recognized and confirmed the prophethood of Muhammad after his revelatory experience at Mount Hira. “By marrying her both exoterically and esoterically, Muhammad recieved from her both the ranks of prophet and messenger (nubuwwa and risala). As his hujja, Khadija is made responsible for his ‘educational training’ as Imam or ‘Master of the time’, for elevating his status and explaining his rank.
