you shave off the redundant layers, you scrub it till the salt bites into the softness under your shell but you will never remove the blanket of grime and microplastic the environment wraps you in, the blanket is inside all of us, it is fused into our flesh, it is the inner lining of our biramous pleopods, it is our only loyal companion when we leave the environment, we leave our companions but the environment never leaves us, it is always with us within us

we are the trash factory workers, we are the fish racers, we are the Abyss denizens we feed our vehicles the gift of forgetfulness and we ride the sand along the bones and wrecks of fallen giants beyond the ruse of segregation, the isopod and the fish become one and under the crushing pressure of the ocean of water and salt and oil and waste we are equal
