Ah, thank you very much! For some reason I'd never thought to look it up myself, sorry for the bother! Indeed around 1974 makes sense as a date then, given the overall situation at that time... Now we know! Thank you, you truly hold all the answers! :D - Kiwy
Just catching up on some asks - not been on tumblr much this weekend!
No problem, happy to help - means I now know as well! Israel has a rather confusing/complicated place in the world geopolitically speaking, to say the least!
Hi! Thanks as always for answering questions so kindly and making comprehensive lists! You're the best *finger guns* Okay so my question had to do with geopolitics: why is Israel competing in the Euros, aside from the fact that they won't compete in the Asian competitions since they include all of the Middle-East and aren't recognized as a nation by most there? Is it simply so they'll have a competition to be a part of, much like at Eurovision? - Kiwy, who is Middle Eastern and yet has no clue
No problem at all!
I have to say that I've always been a bit confused by it too to be honest, so I looked it up. Here's the answer:
"Israel were an active member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from 1956 onwards. In 1964 they won the AFC Asian Cup as hosts, and their youth teams lifted the AFC Youth Championship six times (1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1971 and 1972). However, Israel left the AFC in 1974 because of political issues.
Since 1991 Israel have been playing regularly in Europe and, after a lengthy procedure, the Israel Football Association became a full UEFA member in 1994."

Denmark was the better team first half. Nadim could have scored 2-3 goals. Pernille wasn’t fit but played the whole 90 not being herself, but scored a lovely goal. Israel played better than Denmark the second half, but didn’t really have any chances.
Ah thanks for the update!
Hope Pernille will be OK - not sure what the Wolfsburg schedule is looking like but hopefully she won't be needed too much so she can recover properly!

I was going to say 'nice!' and then remembered that you're from Israel - sorry?
How's the match? Haven't been able to watch any of it.
