Descriptions -

Qalan - 1. Journal entry, across from which were pressed clovers and a rose. 2. Letter to Shianni. Even in something fast and only intended to be seen by himself, his writing is still clear and obviously well practiced, though with a tendency to underline things for emphasis and draw in the margins - both of which he tries to avoid in correspondence with others.

Connor - Crumpled first draft of a letter. Is this even writing? No but really, without putting in a lot of effort to make it legible, his writing is the worst. Rapid chicken scratch with words frequently crossed out, letters overlapping or sometimes missing. It's a good thing that he could eventually pay Bodahn to transcribe all but his most personal correspondence.

Lena - Excerpt of a letter to Bethany. I once said this woman hasn't relaxed since she was thirteen years old, and it definitely shows in her writing, though it's at least more recognizable as actual words.

Rella - Until the events of DA:I, she was illiterate, and only signed her name on correspondence transcribed by Josephine - often with enough pressure to tear the paper. Even once she could write on her own (frankly, relying on others was too irritating for her to NOT learn how), her writing retained a sharp, slow appearance and she always held her pen in a death grip.

Anaan - Excerpt of a letter to her eldest son. Open, cheerful and fast writing, fitting for her personality even if some people think it looks strangely juvenile.

Issala - Waterlogged scrap of a note, found in Llomeryn. Unable to read or write until he was nearly an adult, his writing always looked (and usually was) rushed and simple, with all capital letters to keep things quick and uncomplicated.

I'm not going anywhere with it right now but. But that piece of art has once again reignited the 'what if neve and issala adopt kids post veilguard?' brain worms. Like.

Like okay you've got issala and his whole thing of feeling like he doesn't deserve a second chance in life and like he's too screwed up to be normal anyway and just overall like he's lived a shit enough life it hardly matters if he lives or dies (not to mention since I kept planning him out before the game released you've also got his son who he catastrophically screwed up with)

And like. Hard to even properly type something out about neve in this regard instead of just pulling my hair out but like. That line about fighting and feeling like the city is stabbing her in the back sometimes. The way that what stuck out to me most reading streets of minrathous was how alone she seemed. The way she always came across as deeply caring but never quite attached and the way that always seemed to be tinged with a bit of hurt am I making sense?

Like. I think for them especially So Much would have to happen for that to occur and I don't think they'd be perfect parents (like I think issala could easily get overprotective) but I also don't think they'd be doomed to fail and I just. I don't know where I'm going with this but it's nice in my head at least.

The urge to edit and reblog that Issala thing I wrote months like

I'm sorry I just keep thinking about the time he had a normal family like yeah it came too late for there to be no damage done but it still happened and like. I dunno he feels like a character where it's essential for him to have had a good family at some point (like with anaan how it feels essential that while she doesn't have many memories of them what she does have of her birth parents is positive, or how with Connor it feels essential that his family kind of sucked (though like I've got a draft from Malcolm's perspective making it clear he's trying and like, what else does he know?))

Anyway wow I sure can fill a parentheses anyway I just keep thinking about the

'you were difficult.' pause 'of course you were. you were a kid. What else could you have been?'

I dunno maybe it is the summer depression hitting with a deluge of memory (memory is a rope around the neck and they're hanging me in the town square for entertainment) but I just think about it a lot lately

Anyway an Issala thing that's definitely happened at some point

Anyway someone definitely, probably after staring awkwardly for a while, asked how he lost his fingers and he definitely made a Big Exaggerated Show of pretending he hadn't noticed they were gone and overturned his pack/tent/whatever in a faux effort to find them, all while maintaining a completely serious expression.

Something something if you're going to ask stupid shit he's going to do stupid shit something something if he's not Funny about everything it's going to eat him alive no matter how much time has passed something something as cool as it could sound to say 'well a mage tried to frost my face and hands off and I killed him with a kitchen knife (which was nice except now i can't properly make facial expressions and one of my hands doesn't work)' if he told that story it would just sound as deeply sad as it really is (hence him either saying it was poisons, explosives, or whatever animal he thinks it sounds most impressive to say that he fought by hand once)
