"And what did you mean, Shirou?"

Of course, he just started plucking his eyebrow again. Suzu couldn't help but stare at it, watching the last struggling hairs dodge his fingertips in desperate hope that they may live. Suzu had already started drawing it back on just to keep him from looking silly in front of clients because of one bad habit.

Shirou glanced in his direction, only to quickly turn his head away.

"What's it even matter." "It matters to me."

You asked me to be here.

"Well, you were fine with anyone before," Shirou grumbled, crossing his arms, but still refusing to face him. "That's different."

How many times could this come up? It wasn't like he could change the past.

"Give me my purse, Shirou."

Shirou turned his head away so severely Suzu could see the corner of his eyes from the other side. Sometimes he just seemed like the same stubborn child he'd been when they met. Now Suzu knew what it was like to be on the receiving end of his temper tantrums.

But it was hard not to find him cute. It took all his strength to stay strong when Shirou was puffing out his cheeks.

Suzu opened the desk drawer, taking his purse back.

"Oi!"

It was empty.

"Shirou."

Shirou clicked his tongue, still trying his best to look away.

Was this how he'd been when he stole his mother's ring.

"If you want to go shopping, I'll go with you," Shirou mumbled, though his mouth seemed to ooze to make everything he said sound like it came with the same tone as calling him a slur. "So that no nasty men steal me away."

He was starting to build a habit of pouting. Perhaps Suzu had given in a few too many times.

“Shirou, do you really think I’m going to run away with someone else?”

Suzu closed the drawer and took a step towards him, leaning into the chair back and slipping his hands under his suit jacket. The chair moved with the force, pushing back against him.

“I’m only interested in you, after all.”

His ears were turning pink. Suzu brushed his lips along them, feeling the heat radiate into his mouth.

“I’ll go with you.”

“You don’t want to.”

Shirou was always less than thrilled at the suggestion of dress shopping. The only time he showed the slightest willingness was if it involved the word “wedding.” Any time Suzu so much as glanced at a dress in a shop window, he was off. There was no way he was about to spend hours looking with someone like Suzu beside him.

“I’ll be back before dinner.” Suzu kissed his ear before heading for the door, grabbing his clutch on the way past. As soon as his hand touched the handle, he heard the drawer sliding open once again.

“ISSHIKI.”

Suzu opened the door, darting out before looking back. Shirou was already running after him.

“You wouldn’t survive meeting the girls anyway!” Suzu closed the door, cutting Shirou off.

Isshirou with fic starter 7: "Are you trying to tell me something?"

Someone desperate to rebalance the ship tags

“Are you trying to tell me something?” Shirou asked.

Belle bunched their dress in their fists, trying to take a deep breath without Shirou noticing how nervous they were. Like he hadn’t noticed. They’d been starting and stopping a million times over trying to think what to say or how to explain things.

“Would you like me… if I wasn’t a girl?” they mumbled, fists tightening. Their mother would be mad when she saw how wrinkled it was.

“But you are a girl.”

“But if I wasn’t.”

Shirou smiled, his face all melding together in those up turns.

“I’d love you no matter what.”

Belle’s heart stopped in their chest, feeling all their anxiety rush out of them at once. They dropped to their knees, crawling over to where Shirou sat.

“Do you think I’d be pretty? If I wasn’t a girl.”

“Of course!”

“You don’t think I’d be handsome?”

Shirou froze, eyebrows furrowing as he looked down at his knees.

“You could be both.”

Belle smiled. They’d dreaded the idea of being called handsome – of Shirou calling them such – but hearing it like this.

It felt different to anyone else doing it.

“But.” Shirou’s face dropped. “I don’t think I could marry you if you weren’t a girl.”

Belle stopped, the pain returning to their chest all at once.

“Oh,” was all they could say.

“I don’t think my mum would let me.”

“Is that so.”

They were sure someone had already told his mum.

Shirou held his chin, looking off into the distance like a detective in a movie. It would be a role that suited him. He should audition for one some time.

“I guess we’ll have to run away.”

“Huh?” Belle looked at him.

Shirou nodded, “it’s called eloping! Then we can get married without asking first.”

Belle stared at him, but found themself nodding.

“When should we go?”

“Monday, maybe? Everyone will think we’re just late home from school.”
