Third Reboot Comic in the Magazine #256
Previous: First, Second
I really like this cover. Nothing in the comic or magazine itself has anything to do with Musa's concert but I really like their concert outfits and it's something different which is always nice. I guess I should be happy Musa at least made it unto the cover but I still wish she had actually been front and centre! You know, because it's her concert and everything...
The third reboot comic covers the third episode of the reboot series but only the "important" parts - Stella's ring being lost, finding it in the ruins of Cloudtower, the Trix immediately trapping the other Winx, Bloom transforming for the first time and saving them, the Winx Club being formed - which means that most of the fun and interesting parts of the episode didn't make it into the comic. I still despise the way this "fight" went and that everybody but Bloom had to be useless and it doesn't get any better in comic version.
Bloom reacts to the others' fairy forms as if she's never seen them before which I guess is the case in the comic canon? I do like that the removal of the previous episode's test-plot means that the comics fix a plot hole that the series had. Here, Icy makes clear that she baits Bloom to transform (similar to how it was in the original series) in order to be able to steal her power. The reboot series left that ambiguous but still had the Trix act like they were trying to bait Bloom into transforming. Another sad win for the comics.
On a more positive note, I really like how the transformations of the other Winx are all portrayed in one panel but all with some hints, text, backgrounds and poses from their transformation sequences. Musa even has her notes string and Flora her vines - such a cool idea to do that! I also like that they included Tecna's joke about "six fairies who randomly met at Alfea and share a room" as a club name, still funny!
Not much the comic adds or changes this time around, sadly. It's a very condensed and basic retreat of the series' episode which is to be expected for most of these but still kind of disappointing.
