#JackedKirby - The Living Colossus en Espanol!!!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Viva la Mexico.... especially when it comes to classic reprint comics baby!!!! Here we have #Issue162 of El Hal Con Negro, published sometime in 1962 (finding an exact month of release has proven tough!) and featuring art that may seem familiar to Kirby aficionados. 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 The art comes from Tales of Suspense #Issue14 that was published in February of 1961... but in a strange turn of events the Mexican Reprint seen in Pic 1 used the opening splash page of the Tales of Suspense issue instead of the original cover art! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Pic 1 shows the Mexican Reprint, and Pic 2/3 show the excellent interior splash page art in its inked and originally colored form. El Hal Con Negro was a continuation of another Mexican reprint title, El Hal Con Oro, which was a long running reprint series that featured DC comics Blackhawk military series through the years. #JackedKirby - Floating Heads, a double page splash and Krackle filled title page... oh my!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 The Losers was a special comic from DC because it combined a slew of random characters from earlier war comics throughout the 60s into one big team looking back on World War II. Nostalgia for the “Great War” was alive and well in the 70s and DC dug deep in their well of past characters to create this unlikely team that always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time together... hence the name they get, The Losers! 🇺🇸💥🇺🇸 Writer Robert Kahniger first teamed the crew up in #Issue123 of Our Fighting Forces (published in Jan/Feb 1970). The team consisted of Captain Johnny Cloud, Captain Storm and the duo of Gunnar & Sarge. It was a relatively obscure feature, steadily chugging along in publication until Jack grabbed the writing/art reigns of the book with #Issue151 of Our Fighting Forces (published in August of 1974) and would continue on the book until #Issue162 in December of 1975). Despite being one of the last regular series Jack would work on during this tenure at DC, he took the process and subject matter very series... and created an amazing look back at WWII!!! 🇺🇸💥🇺🇸 This series of pages opens up Jack’s first issue on the run... and sums it up perfectly. This is some first four pages! We get on opening title page with some great paneled action and Kirby’s signature floating heads, we get a double splash page next that is struggling to be contained by the borders of the page, and then he finishes up this strong open with another single page splash of our 4 intended heroes in all there Kirby glory ! Just look at all that Krackle... it’s awesome! I also included that columns letters page, which instead of printing readers letters did something a bit different: Jack penned a page long letter to the book’s readers detailing what to expect and what he was trying to bring to make this war comic unique!!! 🇺🇸💥🇺🇸 Jack was proud of his service in the military, and he made sure to do it justice whenever he depicted it in his work. This is a prime example of that.... and it’s one of the most underrated things Jack ever did!!! 💥🇺🇸💥
