#JackedKirby - The Haste of Dr Doom... 💥💥💥 One of my favorite things about 60s Marvel comic series are the annuals.... these oversized 64 page monsters are not only stuffed with classic reprinted stories and awesome supplemental material, they often had great storylines that would set the course of Marvel history for years to come. They usually care out around midsummer, with a September cover date... 💥💥💥 One of my faves of the old annuals is Fantastic Four #Annual2 which has a cover date of September 1964... which means it was probably on newsstands by the last week of July/1st week of August. 💥💥💥 It tells the awesome origins story of One of Marvel’s greatest villains, Dr Victor Von Doom. We finally get some back story on what made Doom the way he was in the pages of the early FF, not to mention an origin of his armor and of course his trademark mask! 💥💥💥 Pics 1 and 2 of this post portray the page when the sacred monks in the mountains of Tibet give Doom the armor they have fashioned for him... but it’s the series of panels in the middle that always jumps out at me! Here (pics 3/4) Doom quickly presses the still BURNING HOT mask to his face, fusing it to the flesh... the reasoning of course being that Doom was badly scarred in an early accident and is ashamed of his face. But in later ret-cons if this incident we find out that Doom only had a minor blemish after the lab accident and didn’t need to permanently cover his scarred face... his own avarice and pride made him do it! Either way, adding a hot metal mask to you face (scarred or not) is some death metal style behavior!!!! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #DrDoom #FF #FantasticFour #Annual #60Comics #ComicsOfThe60s #Comics #Comic #ComicBooks #ComicBook #IGComics #ComicsOfIG #MaskOfDoom #VictorVonDoom https://www.instagram.com/p/CBeXi8EhmeM/?igshid=8q5ppemv796c
