This comic is so pretty, not afriad of those vibrant colors and the way it portrays memories for J'onn keeps in line with an other worldly feel.
Of course my heart hurts for J'onn who claims to have no friends outside of the Justice League. I had no idea how important this group was until he said those words. The fact that he came to Batman first, that this was the person he conciously sought out speaks so many volumes be it that he knew Batman would not stop until he solved this, had answers, or was scary enough to fight back what ever it was that was attacking J'onn. I know in other media, there is some real trust between the two and seeing this as the first one on one interaction, makes sense to me. It certainly is not 'perfect', Batman can't understand what he can't see and is unsure if J'onn is having an episode or not.
It's time to call in J'onn's fellow friends....
'pain' & 'fear' are portrayed so interestingly here and really enjoy how Martian thinks, speaks of Mars and Earth. The emotion of having been born to one, but living in another is beautifully done.
Even when his arrival [forced] unintentionally causes a death, there is such respect for what is 'alien' to J'onn. Both in people and planet.
The writing is chef's kiss!
