inspired by Olivia Rodrigo’s song drivers licence 

y/n’s been absolutely heartbroken over her ex, although he was a horrible person she loved him, richie is her best friend and he hates seeing her like this, and though he couldn't tell her, he loves her more then he thought he could love anyone.

 today was the last day of school, she, along with the rest of the losers were excited for summer, hoping this year would be normal. richie had called earlier then usual that morning asking if y/n needed a ride “I'm good,” y/n sighed before hanging up on him not even saying goodbye.

 y/n had gotten her drivers licences last week, she didn’t tell anyone though, she knew they’d all be so happy for her but there was also a part of them that would feel pity and she’d had enough of that since her and joey had broken up, he was so excited for her to get her licences, he’d been helping her thought out most of the process and by the time she’d gotten it he was long gone and it hurt her more then it should have but they were together for almost a year and now he’s gone, happy with someone else.

 y/n hadn’t wanted anything to do with driving since he left her, it’s been a month but her mom was bugging her relentlessly to go and finish her final test, just so she could get her mom off her back she did and she passed, but y/n hadn’t driven since then and refused too, she had been more then happy to ride along with richie instead of having to go in that car where so much had happened that she wanted to forget.

 y/n doesn’t want to be a bother, she knew richie would get up earlier to pick her up for school, she also knew that he had gone shopping at least once a week to have her favourite snacks if she was ever hungry. he waisted to much money and time on her for no reason so she decided that today would be different, she was going to drive to school today, prove to herself that she can do it without thinking about him.

she grabbed her keys from the front door and let the house throwing her school bag in the passenger seat of her car, she let the radio play as background noise but she wasn't paying attention, she tried thinking of anything else but him but that's all her mind kept going too, it didn’t make it any better when she passed his house, she wanted to scream but she couldn't.

she safely got to school parking the car before roughly punching the steering wheel, she hated this, she hated that she couldn’t be happy, why, how could he do something so harsh and not deal with it? it wasn’t fair.

richie saw a car parked that he hadn't seen before, he noticed y/n sitting it the drivers seat and he smirked to himself, he was so proud of her, he knew how much she had struggled with the tests but he wondered why she didn’t tell him. he walked up to the car knocking the passenger window lightly with a smile placed on his face waiting for her to notice him and unlock the car, but when y/n looked up he saw how broken she looked, tears were streaming down her face and she looked so helpless.

y/n debated for a moment, did she really want richie to see her like this again? when she thought about it she’d rather it was richie then anyone else, he knew her better then anyone and he would know exactly how to comfort her so she unlocked the door and he instantly came into the car, moving her bag into the back.

“hey, are you okay?” he asked and she let out a raspy chuckle “yeah rich, couldn't be better” she exclaimed wiping away her tears with the edge of her sweatshirt “what happened?” he asked realizing how stupid he had just sounded “what's been happing for the past month richie! I just can't get him out of my head, he's a piece of shit don't know why I dated him? why would I think it’d be a good idea?!” she yelled, more tear escaping her eyes “because you loved him y/n/n, you loved him and you saw the good in him like you do with everyone, you gave him a chance and he fucked up big time, you never deserved him, you deserve so much better than him!” richie sighed “I hate him rich! I hate him so much Its so stupid,” she cried to him.

richie hated this, he hated seeing someone he loves in so much pain and there's nothing he could do to stop it, it was killing him, all he wanted was for her to be okay, he’d do anything to get her to be happy again, this past month was the worst thing for both of them, worse then dealing with that killer clown that had been after them last summer, they’d both rather that then feeling heartbroken. 

“is there anything I can do?” richie asked y/n wanting to do something to help “go back in time and stop me from saying yes to him?” she told him and they both let out a breathy laugh “I wish I could, but how about today we skip, it’s the last day its not like were going to miss anything” he suggested knowing that y/n wouldn't want anyone asking her any questions “good idea” she smiled weakly at him “lets go to my place okay? ill make you some hot coco and we’ll watch all your favourite movies and eat all the junk you could possibly imagine, sound good?” he asked her smiling once he’d seen her face light up a little “thanks rich,” she said silently agreeing to his proposal. 

when the two walked into richies house he had told her to go wait in the basement and he'd bring everything down, y/n tried protesting saying she doesn't want him to do all the work but ended up listing.

as y/n waited downstairs, richie poured their hot coco’s filling them to the top, putting some whipped cream and marshmallows in it, he went through his pantry grabbing the chips, chocolates, and candies that he knew y/n loved and threw them into a plastic bag so it would be easier to carry down the stairs.

when he got downstairs he saw he curled up in the corner of the couch with his favourite blanket, he sat next to her, placing the food and drinks on the small coffee table in front of the couch, he pulled her into him giving her s comforting hug and just holding her, y/n happily returned the gesture, she felt loved and happy for the first time in a long time and she had richie to thank.

Bill: If I'd have one dollar for everytime a killer alien clown had murdered someone I love after ripping off their arm I'd have two dollars, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened to me twice.
