But, like, the main thing about this workshop for me what examining who I desire (and not only sexually, because that's complicated a bit for me, but still) and why and how it has come to be this way. And also to start thinking of ways to challenge that beyond reblogging pictures of attractive people who aren't white/cis/able-bodied. I find it's something we should address more often, especially in our queer communities, which is very sex or dating oriented and, from my experience here in Ottawa, mostly white.
So, good things! Things that take time and that are something to think about constantly in all of our daily interactions.
Today:
Went to class, actually learned things, thought about getting a degree by getting 2 other certificates and felt a bit relieved at the idea.
Headed for Ottawa, took the bus in the wrong direction and ended up having to do the same trip in the other direction again to get to Ottawa… and then not knowing where Bank Street was anymore???
Got to Venus Envy for a workshop by the It Gets Fatter project on fatness & being a POC & desirability. It was a super good workshop and a lot of interesting things were said in group discussions and in the sharing we did afterwards. It was an experience in stepping back for me, being a white person in a space that prioritized POC. (I don’t know what to think of the fact that most of the people who were there were white queer people, mostly AFAB). I didn’t feel like I was able to be vulnerable enough to do some of the exercises or to have some of the discussions completely honestly for a few reasons, but basically because I went alone and was anxious…and talking about sexuality with strangers when it’s something I’m figuring out privately with myself right now was just not happening, so yeah… Excellent job by the people from the It Get Fatter project, I just didn’t have the best experience because of outside things.
I saw Merissa and Tarah on my way back home and chatted a little bit and they were both really cute and kind <3
I got home and watched Teen Wolf and cuddle with my little sister and now I’m gonna go to bed because tomorrow I’m getting up early to buy canvas and go paaaaaaaint yeah
★ It Gets Fatter started a new monthly peer support group in Toronto for self-identified fatties of color at the Centre for Women & Trans People at the University of Toronto!
A video dedicated to the It Gets Fatter Project. The video deals with her family's views of her being fat, struggling with gender identity, and also with racial issues.

--> support awesome fat activists! <-- "It Gets Fatter is a body positivity project started by fat queer people of colour, for fat people of colour! Instead of hating our bodies, we want to celebrate ourselves the way we are now and create a safe space for other fat people of color to do so!"
